Disappointing Purchase

Having moved to the US from Europe 5 years ago we missed out on one of our favorite family activities: grilling. After reading many positive reviews about the Swissmar grill, we decided to buy it and use it the same day it arrived. The experience was rather disappointing. Although the grill comes with 8 pans, you cannot use it with 8 people. A usable stone area can be 11-12 inches wide, so an ideal area for 4 people. For a party of 6 you will need at least 15 inches of usable space, for 8 people more like 18-20 inches. The stone gets quite hot, but not hot enough to produce the desired annihilating effect. from the stone grill. The heating element appears to be turned on and off with a timer rather than a thermostat that measures the actual temperature of the stone. Maybe the lack of heat is caused by using granite instead of lava stone, and it's only 1 inch thick, which is a bit thin to keep enough heat. The brackets that support the stone are very thin metal plates that cause the stone to move a lot when you try to peel it. This makes it easier to clean up later, but seems like a dubious compromise. Finally, the grill comes with 8 plastic scrapers that can be used on the baking sheets to avoid damaging the non-stick coating. However, the kit does not include a metal scraper to clean the stone between courses. Using plastic scrapers won't do much good, so you'll either have to buy a separate scraper, or fry your food on the burnt remains of previous dishes. Overall the purchase was disappointing.
