Review on Immerse in Sound: Moondrop Quarks Earphone with Closed Anterior Cavity & Micro Dynamic Driver by Jessica Harrison

6mm dynamic drivers are the future

When I heard EDC's NuForce at Massdrop, I was amazed at the performance. Tiny dynamic drivers can simultaneously deliver frequency response, efficiency and resolution when properly tuned. Since then I've loved trying anything that has those tiny drivers and this pair doesn't disappoint. These are cheap headphones, but the tuning and frequency response outperform the drivers. They convince at medium volume and with electronic, pop and dynamic music. They have it all: some bass, clean mids and well-controlled highs. If you turn them up too loud, some songs may have poor sound quality. Metal isn't good for them, they're pretty neutral, so heavy mid tracks will be overly clinical and flat, so use the EQ if you need to change the content and volume of the music a bit, which goes for most headphones, nobody will do anything. Now all we need is a 6mm full-range dynamic driver and 10mm woofer, pair them with a 120Hz crossover and it could be the next big thing in headphones.

  • Don't waste too much time
