to replace the damaged plastic version. As a gift, it was well received and worked well until about 2 months ago, when I heard a faint crackling sound when I put hot water in it. No damage was found during the inspection. Continued use and more pops over the next few months until now when I finally got to photograph it and post photos here. It's worth noting that the plastic one-shot coffee maker it replaced was over 40 years old and the only reason it broke was because it was stuck between some other items that had cracks. This product was manufactured by Melitta in Germany. This replacement was made by Melitta in China. Needless to say, I'm disappointed it didn't take that long to snap. It's still usable, but for how long it won't break in two, who knows. I'm giving 2 stars because it works/works well and the cracks due to poor quality are causing it to lose 3 stars.
