Purchased at the same time as the regular glue-on mosaic kit. (By typical I mean the solid color shapes you place on the picture.) We tried a different set first and my daughter (almost 3 years old) lost interest very quickly. She had a hard time telling what color should be where, and I don't think it looked very different or interesting to her wearing anything. After a few days, I convinced her to give it a try. It's MUCH, MUCH better! Instead of purple squares and blue circles, each piece has an image that fits the theme of the whole. We made a birthday cake and she loved all the different colored sprinkles and it was a lot easier for her to figure out where they went. She played with him for almost an hour at a time, which is very important for her age! I like that the finished painting is actually different from the original. In another set of mosaics, the flat monkey turned into a monkey with shapes on it, so the picture didn't improve much. This is definitely the best jigsaw puzzle set for kids I've ever seen!
