Great quality for the price

Let me just say I have never owned a GoPro camera before and was looking for a cheaper alternative. Enter Amcrest. My first impression was good when I opened the box. Note, however, that a microSD card is not included. So be sure to buy one if you don't already have one. You need a class 10 card for this camera. The kit comes with a good set of mounting accessories that I have used on both my bike and motorbike. Installation was very easy on both. However, I have not installed it in any of my helmets. Inserting the camera into the waterproof case is very easy, but I simply had to drag the entire assembly (case + camera) from bike to bike. I'm really impressed with the Wi-Fi feature that connects the camera directly to my phone. The ability to stream live video to my phone made it very easy to adjust the camera angle when I couldn't see the camera's screen itself. My only gripe with this is that I have to put my phone in airplane mode to do this (as instructed). This means I can't take calls or use my phone on Wi-Fi mode. Here are a few things that caught my eye in these entries. The timestamp displayed on the video automatically changed color depending on the image captured. For example, when the sky was bright, the timestamp was displayed in black, and when the sky was dark, the timestamp was displayed in white. I really appreciate this subtle feature. I also noticed that the video *always* got split at 9:51. Not sure if this is a file size limit or something, but thought it might be worth a look. I think if you want to put together a complete video you need to merge them. In terms of image and video quality, I'm very impressed with the resolution. For such a small camera, the quality of the image/video resolution is very impressive. However, mounting the camera on the handlebars of my motorcycle and bicycle resulted in very shaky videos. I know GoPro is famous for its image/video stabilization but I was hoping there would be a way to reduce this with the Amcrest camera. The instructions recommend mounting on a helmet, which I think will help with stabilization, but I didn't try it myself as I didn't want to ruin my helmets with mounting glue. Turning on the mic to record sound while cycling was pointless. I'm not surprised that all I got was mostly wind noise. I was also disappointed that Amcrest has little to no video editing features. I was looking for software that would allow me to merge video clips and offer video stabilization, but I just couldn't find anything simple enough to make the video more enjoyable. I tried to download the Quik app for my phone but I think my old phone might not have enough video processing power. Overall I'm happy with the image/video resolution, the included accessories are a good start while you figure out what you might need, and the direct Wi-Fi connection to your phone is a useful feature. My only real complaints are that there is no image/video stabilization and there isn't even a recommendation for software to control the video.
