The original factory connector on my 1999 Honda Civic closed not the circuit up to the EVAP purge valve. The valve worked (clicked and opened) when I connected the battery to it; Battery voltage went to the connector when the engine was warm and running, but not from the connector to the 2 pins of the purge valve. This new connection was the answer. I connected it to the purge valve and applied battery voltage: the connection was good. The length of the wires is more than enough to connect to the factory wires. I used wire nuts with tape around them and paired wires. good to go Update: That wasn't enough. The CEL came back on and the code was again an EVAP leak near the reservoir. Bought a new fuel cap from Stant. Its O-ring was more flexible than a car gas cap. A new gas cap was installed within a few weeks and the CEL did not occur. It appears that despite the specificity of the diagnostic code, the leak occurred right there and not near the canister on the firewall.
