Edit: 2.5 years and three sets of filters later still no problems to report. I've made a few changes below. Read #1 - Very Important! This is a great filter for those who want to keep the beneficial minerals in the water and filter out the rest. The best filtration is reverse osmosis, but it requires a separate separate storage tank to keep the water at room temperature, metallic taste, and low water pressure = slow flow. After extensive research, we chose this filter for all reasons. Above. This fits perfectly with four healthy levels of filtration, great flow and no reverse osmosis! I ran it in half an hour with simple built-in connections to the fridge's water line, and it got rid of pesticides and city water taste in no time. Important Notes: #1) This tip can save you from costly plumbing repairs in the future and is what you need to know before installing this unit. CHECK WATER PRESSURE! This filter must be operated below 80 psi. There are various simple $10 screw-on testers such as: B. the Watts IWTG, which takes a few seconds to use. I attached a tester to a hose in my backyard and found the pressure was 80psi. We then checked my relatives house and they were at 92 psi. No big deal, right? The water pressure in the well should be below 60psi, ideally 50, to avoid water hammer (pipe banging) and damage to copper water pipes over time! After installing a water pressure regulator on the main line in the basement ($100 at the local hardware store and a few hours of work), we immediately noticed that the pipes don't rattle when we flush the toilet or when the washing machine is running. Also, the filter was now in the optimal range of 40-80psi. If your water pressure is over 60psi, add at least one iSpring APR40 to your purchase to depressurize this filter to 40psi and protect it from damage. #2) As mentioned, there is a slight oily sheen. in the water when first installed. The oil helps seal the cartridges. Just run 15 gallons of water through a filter to remove everything, it really isn't that hard, see pics 2-3. Residue and cloudiness is common with almost ALL water filters upon initial installation, and 1-star complaints indicate inexperienced DIYers. Pipes, as both are relatively soft materials with the same outside diameter. The water now tastes like it was bottled and we are very happy, plus no pesticides. If I run into any problems, you know where I'll post them!
