Buy the Eddie Bauer Lewis Plaid instead.
Not only did this duvet have a strong chemical smell, it didn't feel soft either (despite the 100% cotton outer layer). I think the reason it doesn't feel soft is because the checkered pattern feels printed which gives it a rough look. As it was for my son I ended up returning it and bought an Eddie Bauer Lewis Plaid Blanket Set, King, Navy. Not only did the EB Lewis Plaid look a lot better, it was chemical-free and felt softer.
