Review on ๐Ÿ’ฆ Fibaro FGBHFS-101 Flood Sensor - Homekit Enabled Water Leakage Detector, White with Temperature Monitoring by Patrick Gibb

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I think it's better than D-Link DCH-S160

I have a Fibaro leak sensor and a D-Link DCH-S160 leak sensor. I will be replacing D-Link with another Fibaro sensor soon. I hired D-Link to monitor an attic HVAC swamp specifically for email alerts (via D-Link) and SMS/text alerts (via IFTTT). I also bought the D-Link for the reliability as it plugs straight into an outlet and I don't have to go to the attic often to check it or change batteries. D-Link doesn't meet that criteria for me now, having been informed that IFTTT integration will be discontinued by the end of the year. When I recently checked it was offline with no notifications/alerts (seems to have lost wifi connection). In the 2.5 years I've been using Fibaro I haven't had any connection issues as it uses Bluetooth instead of WiFi like D-Link and is therefore not affected by power outages, router reboots or other WiFi connection issues. Also, with so many connected devices, I try to minimize congested Wi-Fi networks as much as possible. Therefore, for peace of mind, Fibaro ticks all the boxes for me. There were no connection problems with the Fibaro sensor. Alerts and push notifications in the Home app are instant, and the automation in the Home app (like turning on the light when a leak is detected) is great. The battery life was also excellent. It's been 2.5 years and the battery still shows 100%. As of this writing, the only three HomeKit leak sensors are Fibaro, Aqara, and Eve. I didn't want the Eve because it needs an outlet to plug it in, and I didn't like the Aqara either, which requires a hub. This Fibaro sensor is a bit overpriced but has run down a bit since it was first released. Reliability and safety are worth it. What I'm missing is a humidity sensor. The Fibaro app isn't the best either, but it doesn't bother me since I never open it (I only use the Home app). I only use Fibaro app for firmware updates and tamper sensitivity settings (low, medium and high). The battery status is shown in both the Fibaro app and the Home app. Places to consider for this leak sensor include water heater, kitchen sink, laundry room, and HVAC sump.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Doubt
