It's NEC! in my rating

I bought this monitor from Adorama about 3 weeks ago because they had it in stock and this is just a quick overview. Coming from a 24" NEC LCD2490WUXI. I connected my computer (690gtx graphics card) to a regular DisplayPort adapter using a Mini DisplayPort adapter and then the DisplayPort cable that came with the monitor. Windows 7 automatically has it as a 4K and 60Hz recognized. There was absolutely no problem running it. I had previously bought another 4k monitor that used a regular TN panel and couldn't handle the color shift even with small angle changes and washed out colors. I sent this monitor back and paid more than twice the price for this one and it was well worth it.The buttons on the front are touch sensitive and very functional, although I prefer real mechanical push buttons. The monitor comes with lots of input options and lots of menu options for settings.as expected and I am very happy as I can't see any dead pixels I use it uncalibrated with standard one settings and the colors are amazing. I see colors that I have never seen before on my old NEC. I'm not an expert on color gamuts, color standards or color profiles, but this monitor allows me to see so much more in my images. One day I will buy a SpectraView calibration kit. Didn't try it as I'm not a gamer anymore, I'm more of an amateur photographer now. Because of the 16:10 aspect ratio, it seems odd to me to use 16:9 and want 2400 pixels in Y. NEC is known for its excellent monitors and this one is another member of the family. And yes, I still keep my old NEC for a dual install. So was it worth the money? I would say yes as 4k monitors are relatively new, especially with an IPS panel in a 24 inch chassis. My only concern is a monitor at this price point, wish the build quality was better. As with everything else, manufacturers are using cheaper and cheaper materials to reduce costs. I won't complain too much if it's reliable and lasts a while. Time will tell, for me monitors are a very long-term investment.

Pros
  • The 4K resolution (3840 x 2160) offers a huge desktop space, which is four times the resolution of Full HD.
Cons
  • I can not remember
