We have a rescue dog that weighs about 16 pounds. Sometimes he barks at the wrong time. His bark is quite loud and can be annoying if he barks for too long. He can bark because it's his way of communicating and demanding what he wants. I use this as a last resort to stop him from barking. I don't know what he hears when I hit the mute button, but he stops barking immediately. I don't use it as a punishment for his barking. I only use him when he refuses to stop that annoying bark he may have learned from his previous owners. When used correctly, this can be a way to train your dog. Don't punish. I can attest that this really works. This certainly works for my dog but may not work for all dogs. I won't say our home is bark free, but it's much more tolerant now.
