My son wanted a waffle maker for Christmas so I started looking for options. I have three and each one produces a large waffle because when I'm entertaining a group, one waffle at a time (@7 minutes each) isn't enough. I found this waffle maker and was so impressed I added it to my wish list as well. When I bought it, the iron was just under $56; I noticed it's on sale for over $100 right now - stay tuned for lower prices! Update December 27, 2019 EVERYONE loves this waffle maker! Makes great waffles. I use a higher setting because we like them a little crunchy. Plus, the irons are retractable and dishwasher safe, which is a HUGE benefit. I still have old waffle irons that I add to my krups when cooking for a crowd; her bear clean; The irons don't pop out and take a long time to clean with a sponge and paper towels. I LOVE my Krups! I made my first batch this morning and am very satisfied! A few things: 1. I wiped down the iron as instructed and then seasoned it.2. I sprayed the iron with Pam before the first batch. With my other waffle irons, I usually only have to spray before the first batch and then not during cooking. However, on this iron, the second batch got stuck - not too bad (I was able to figure it out, but they ripped a bit). So I sprayed the iron before each subsequent batch and it worked fine.3. The instructions say to close the lid, but it doesn't say to close it all the way. On my other waffle makers, I've carefully lowered the lid (not slammed it all the way shut), so I was afraid to latch that lid. However, halfway through baking the first batch, I found that I had to close them completely (this should be stated in the instructions). I started on setting 3 (medium) and the waffles weren't crispy enough, so after another minute or so I left them off. I cooked the next batch to "4" and was still not satisfied with the crispiness factor. The rest was cooked to "5" and I really liked the result!5. Make sure you don't put more than 1/2 cup of batter in each section. Each batch takes about 7 minutes to cook.6. I love that the iron plates are removable for easy cleaning! This is definitely not the case with my old waffle irons. Love love love this feature! A recipe for my Belgian waffles made 7 large round waffles in my other irons. When I cook for a company, I always make a double batch. The double bake recipe made 24 waffles in this iron. Make a ton and freeze them in large zip-loc freezer bags, separating the layers with wax paper. Just fry them straight out of the freezer (not in the microwave!). My Belgian waffle recipe (it's the bomb!). This recipe makes 12 waffles (3 batches of 4). Figure for 2 - 3 waffles per person; Make a double serving for a big company. 2 cups light sour cream 2 l. egg yolk (save the egg white!) 1 cup skim milk 5 tbsp. butter, melted, slightly chilled 4 tsp. sugar 2 tsp baking powder 1 tsp salt 1/2 tsp baking powder 2 cups baking flour 3 egg whites (drain last yolk)1. Combine all ingredients except bread flour and egg white in a large bowl and stir. Add bread flour until flour is moistened (do not try to remove every lump).3. Beat 3 egg whites until stiff and carefully fold into the batter.5. Drizzle the top and bottom of a Belgian waffle iron with the Pam mixture and heat. When the iron is ready, scoop out Β½ cup of batter, close and secure the lid. When the iron indicates the waffle is ready, remove it and repeat the process.
