I was having trouble with low lighting in my 20 gallon tank. The standard dome only allowed 15 watts of regular fluorescent light, which was barely enough for even dimly lit plants. I bought this as an upgrade to the standard lighting and it was a good choice. It's affordable, has solid construction and is an excellent choice for a medium/low range aquarium (more like a medium range). At only 24 watts I was very concerned that this might not be enough, but the T5HO system puts out a lot of light! The plants in my 20 hour tank showed faster growth and better colouration. When buying, do not forget to take a light bulb and a timer for convenience. You can skip the timer if you want, but then you'll have to toggle it on/off at night or when you want to turn off the lights (it doesn't have an on/off switch!). I recommend Sylvania's analog timer for this. This allows you to run it on an accurate and reliable schedule, and if you just want to turn it on or off, you can just flip the switch to On (timeless) or Off without the default (timed) to disturb ) timing.
