Inexpensive, but without bulbs

Individual parabolic reflector for maximum light output. I would recommend buying these single tube units instead of the group units. Attractive, modern look of the units (as opposed to old-fashioned strip lights).

Great light.: Fish and aquatic animals

So far so good. The lamps are not difficult to install, just take your time. This lamp is manufactured by Hagen. They've been in the fish stock for as long as I can remember, good company. Order lightbulbs from Dr. Foster and Smith for the right lighting for your installation. Comes with metal skids that fit any 24" tank. Comes with a timer. quality reflector. Great offer. As mentioned in other reviews you must have two good lightbulbs for it to work. A bad lightbulb will put them both out…

Would recommend to friends and family

Amazing price! The light comes with extendable legs to fit a variety of tanks (rimmed or rimless). Additionally, it comes with brackets for rimless aquariums and a hanging kit if you want to hang it from the ceiling. It also comes with a dual timer (usually around $10). Considering the extra features, I feel like I only paid about $30 for this lamp! The reflector is highly polished and the overall profile is very smooth. All in all a great purchase! So why 4 stars? As mentioned in previous…

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • Almost everything is ok

This is a great light, but the price of $149 without the fluorescent light is about $40 more than I paid for my Hagen light. These lanterns have been discontinued and new lanterns from old stock are now in short supply. This led to price gouging. Hagen has released an updated version of the Hagen T5 flashlights under the Fluval brand name. Uniform lighting systems no longer exist. The units are currently available in dual and quad versions in 24", 36" and 48" lengths. They are more expensive…

Great T5HO for fish and aquatic animals

Great T5HO. I have just returned to the aquarium hobby after retiring in 2012. It's amazing how much this hobby has changed over the years. This is the only T5HO light I could find for my 20g length. The reflector is great and makes this light very effective. Adjustable length and height are nice features. The lack of an on/off switch came as a bit of a surprise to me, but it makes a lot of sense since nobody I know uses a timer to turn the light on and off. My HC grows very well with the…

Reliable Lighting System

I was having trouble with low lighting in my 20 gallon tank. The standard dome only allowed 15 watts of regular fluorescent light, which was barely enough for even dimly lit plants. I bought this as an upgrade to the standard lighting and it was a good choice. It's affordable, has solid construction and is an excellent choice for a medium/low range aquarium (more like a medium range). At only 24 watts I was very concerned that this might not be enough, but the T5HO system puts out a lot of…

Great light!: Fish and aquatic life

I use this light on a 20 gallon reef tank. I needed something more than my 2 bulb HO light and this is almost perfect. The lamp itself works perfectly, the ends of the lamps are protected by a plastic sleeve and O-rings. (bulb not included) and easy to install. If you break a lightbulb while inserting or removing it, you may also need help tying your shoelaces. Serious. Another thing is that this light sits nicely on top of the aquarium, but is closer to the water than we'd like in a…

Extremely difficult installation of a light bulb (tube)

Extremely difficult installation of a light bulb (tube). As you know, in order to fit a T5 HO filament bulb into a fixture according to the instructions in the manual, after inserting the tube into the sockets, we need to "gently" rotate the bulb 90 degrees to lock it in place. It is almost impossible to perform this rotation with this device without breaking the bulb. The rotating part in the bushings is too rigid. I had to use a tool in place of the bulb to forcibly rotate this part a dozen…
