I also wanted to throw away this cable because it doesn't stay locked. Looking through my reading glasses, I noticed that the connector pin was covered by a small protective cap. It's optical, which explains why it still works with a clear cover. Assuming they put a cap on to keep dust or dirt out. Either way, take it off and it will snap and stay in place. There's no reason to spend more. Used with Vizio Soundbar connection; liked how compact and easy to hide. Mine is already installed after checking, but this stock photo should make it obvious.
