This thin cable is MUCH easier to install and manage. With an optical signal, shielding is absolutely unnecessary. The heavier coating on optical cables is GASKET [so you can't easily break the cable], not shield. So if you don't walk on the ground, THIN is what you need.

  • All right!
Cons
  • Compatibility

Perfect for audio cable

Connects easily to my computer and powered speakers. People who complain of a loose fit either have a defective cable or the connector on their device doesn't meet specifications. Both ends are secure but not too tight. Remember that the optical signal is strong enough to work with a cable within an inch of the connector. It doesn't have to be very tight, it just doesn't have to fall out. The cable is very thin, making it easy to pull through small gaps. Just be careful not to push it too hard…

Remove the protective plastic cap before use. Works perfectly!

I also wanted to throw away this cable because it doesn't stay locked. Looking through my reading glasses, I noticed that the connector pin was covered by a small protective cap. It's optical, which explains why it still works with a clear cover. Assuming they put a cap on to keep dust or dirt out. Either way, take it off and it will snap and stay in place. There's no reason to spend more. Used with Vizio Soundbar connection; liked how compact and easy to hide. Mine is already installed after…

Does what it should.

I needed a temporary audio input solution and an optical cable. I'm used to using HDMI ARC. This cable works and is worth the money. There are other optical cables that claim all kinds of things, e.g. For example, they may be made out of one material or another, or even charge a premium just because they look cooler. Don't trust the marketing jargon of other cables, this optical cable is great when you need an optical cable solution. And it doesn't cost more than it should. I didn't spend much…

Works as described.

I bought this optical cable after wall mounting the TV in my guest room. It was connected to my old school Bose Solo TV sound system. It only has an optical audio port. Anyway the 6" was too short and I bought it because of the price and length. It got easily from the TV into the low voltage wire in the wall and then into the soundbar. This particular soundbar isn't wall mounted, it's old but still has great sound. No connection issues as some have complained. Both plug into their respective…

Pros
  • Electronics
Cons
  • Almost never

Right off the bat, all the isolation tricks you see on other products just right. The fiber is only affected by light and a thin opaque screen is sufficient. The only problem is that it still breaks with less force and wears out faster over time. Those two factors are irrelevant as I don't use cable as skipping rope and the environment won't affect the insulation for decades to come. This is not a problem as they are cheap and work like any fiber optic cable. They are also easier to train with…

Thought too much and doesn't work on my Sony Receiver

I have had Star Tech products in the past and have had good experiences with them. So I went with this cable, believing it was better quality than most. When I connected my devices with this optical cable, there was no sound from my Sony receiver. My old optical cable works better than this one. I need a cable that is about 20 feet long so I can no longer use my old OC. Also note that it is not fixed like most optical cables. I thought my receiver stopped working and tried adjusting the…
