A few years ago we were on vacation staying at a friend's house and locking the keys in the house with our four-legged fur baby. I was panicking. We called the locksmith. He looked at the door and said he didn't know if I could open it. But he was willing to try for a fee. He pulled out what looked to me like a blood pressure cuff with a pump attached. He managed to slip one between the doorframe and the door and started swinging. Then he keeps slipping. He pulled out a metal bar and opened the door! It cost over $200 and we learned our lesson: don't forget your keys! This is the same system he used. It works. Now I wear them in the car. Never again will we be locked out of the apartment.
