Review on Powerful Mini-ITX Linux Q330G4 Router/Firewall/Proxy/WiFi Access Point: Intel Core i3, AES-NI, 8GB DDR3 RAM, 16GB SSD, 4 Gigabit LAN Ports by Joe Griffin

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good router platform, poor RAM, useless 2.5 " bracket

Packed with no disappointments. Almost does not heat up to the touch. Quiet. Very flexible BIOS settings. This device works very well with OPNsense, although it's underpowered when using the IDS offering (I'm not). Haven't optimized the Ethernet throughput yet. I suspect there will be problems with OPNsense, the hardware seems solid. ) Limited. Never heard of this RAM vendor, not even notable enough for Wikipedia. See the attached photo of the Memtest86 errors. Replaced memory and now works very well. Another issue was the location of the 2.5 inch bracket. Because the SATA connector, like SAS, is so rigid that even with a lot of force it is impossible to close the device with an installed 2.5-inch SSD. I got around this problem with carpet tape by moving the SSD flush with an edge of the mounting plate.

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Almost everything included
