Great for PfSense, good for computers and tablets

Arrived much faster than expected. PfSense version 2.4.5 was already installed (last at the time of writing this review). I prepared my current system and did a restore of this new system. Everything worked as expected. It just had to rename all the interfaces to match the new interface names (igb0, igb1, igb2, igb3). All VLANs, VPNs, users, packets, etc. worked without glitches after the restore. It even has a nice wall mount kit so I can wall mount all my other network gear. The old CPU was…

Pros
  • Cool
Cons
  • Almost everything is fine

Good router platform, poor RAM, useless 2.5 " bracket

Packed with no disappointments. Almost does not heat up to the touch. Quiet. Very flexible BIOS settings. This device works very well with OPNsense, although it's underpowered when using the IDS offering (I'm not). Haven't optimized the Ethernet throughput yet. I suspect there will be problems with OPNsense, the hardware seems solid. ) Limited. Never heard of this RAM vendor, not even notable enough for Wikipedia. See the attached photo of the Memtest86 errors. Replaced memory and now works…

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Almost everything included

Just got this thing, love it

Initially installed pfSense with no problems, after much deliberation I decided to fit an extra SSD and install Proxmox with KVM pfSense , so that I can also run other containers (e.g. Unifi Controller). Good thing the device has an extra m.2 slot as well as a SATA+ power adapter out of the box and they upgraded the processor from the 4005U to the newer 4030U. The 4030U has more features because it's 13% faster overall in the same footprint. The design is fairly solid, all-metal body radiator…

Pros
  • Not cheap but decent
Cons
  • Not as thick as the other options
