Trust other reviews, the mounting system is one of the pathetic pieces of engineering I've come across. I've installed many poles and similar accessories and have never had a problem. Almost all use the same system: a bracket is screwed to the wall, then a small set screw attaches the stand to the bracket. It's a simple design that works and has stood the test of time. Moen reinvented the wheel and made it square. Instead of a metal brace and set screw, they offer a plastic brace with a small plastic tab on the bottom. You need to push the stand against the bracket until the small plastic tab fits into the small hole on the bottom of the stand. Sound easy? Of course, if something doesn't fit 100%, or maybe your wall sags a little, like mine. You will then find that the plastic tab will never find the small hole. Avoid all Moen accessories with this idiotic mounting system.
