We bought these for our trip (about 2500 miles) because we have a caravan of cars in close proximity and want to be contacted quickly if we have any problems or need to stop along the way. I knew when I bought it that a range of 32 miles would be unlikely even on perfectly flat terrain, but I expected it to reach 10-15 miles in most situations. Not even close. At best I would say we were able to get about 2 miles which is what drives him. When you were in that 2 mile range it was uncertain at times and difficult to understand what people were saying. Yes, we used a clear channel with no interference. Yes, it was even on flat terrain. Yes, the battery was fully charged in situations where the range was much less than expected. The battery would last the rest of the day, which I think is fine, but it would drain very quickly if we used it a lot. The loading indicator is also difficult to see as it is very small, hidden in the upper right corner and not highlighted. It also only shows charging and never shows solid bars to indicate it's fully charged. I will say that the interface for changing channels was easy to understand, but I did not go into all the features in full, since this requires reading the instructions and we did not have time to go through them before the trip. Overall build quality and clarity (within the range) was pretty decent, but I might have been better off going with a brand I've heard of before and a proven range of over 5 miles and more battery progression feedback. TO UPDATE! The company came forward and issued a refund for the devices I purchased. While I appreciated the gesture, I told them I wouldn't change my rating because I want people to know what they're buying. If you're looking for a short-range walkie-talkie, say on a ranch or in a building where fast communication is important, I'd say this would be fine. Since the company was kind enough to refund my money, I'm increasing my stars to 3, but please note that this is not an endorsement of the product.
