Review on πŸ”¨ 7-Inch Dasco Pro 431-0 Scratch Awl Tool by Carrie Spencer

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Ideal for reliably approaching holes.

I've had this Dasco awl for a few weeks now. It is very similar to the BOSTITCH 7" awl 16-058 except Dasco is blue and Bostitch is yellow. These two awls are almost the same size, shape and weight. Both are super sharp on arrival. Both perform very well for starting holes before drilling. Even a small mark on the wood can make it less likely that the drill bit will find its reference point. It's like an extra step before drilling anything. However, experience shows that this step saves time, as the drill bit is more likely to drill exactly where you want it without rolling.I rarely use a hammer with wood because the awl is sharp enough and has enough weight that I can just press it down.by hand to make a to get a good starting hole before inserting the drill into the awl hole. UPDATE: After a year of frequent use, this awl is still very sharp. I reach for it so often that I usually use it on my B ank, not on the wall. One of the most used tools in my shop. Still 5 stars, easy.

Pros
  • Tailor's awl
Cons
  • So far so good
