Versatile add-on monitor for travel, chat monitoring, low-power entertainment

When I ordered this, a portable monitor seemed like an absurd luxury and I was sure I wouldn't find a use for it. I was pleasantly surprised and now I have about a dozen of these! The monitor comes in a nifty little magnetic travel case/stand (although take good care of it and consider an extra soft case when you're travelling) and weighs very, very little. It takes up less space than many 15-16 inch gaming laptops. Connectivity is great: if your video source supports USB-C 3.1 and can provide enough power to power the monitor, all you have to do is use the included cable. Otherwise, you can connect it to an A-to-C 5v/2a charger and use the mini HDMI port. Cable and charger are included, which was a pleasant surprise. At 1080p, you don't get crisp text on this display, even on a 15.6-inch display. You do get HDR, however, and can set it to automatic or leave it on all the time (text will suffer if you do the latter). I tried this on iPadOS 16 and MacOS Monterey. The iPad took about five seconds to dim the display and then switch to HDR mode. The Mac kept me trying to possibly control it in HDR all the time, but I had to toggle it manually when using regular apps. Managing the built-in settings was pretty easy once I figured out that the menu toggle toggles up and down and selects an option. You have some flexibility here. This is where you adjust the audio levels, but I would recommend going with literally everything else for your audio if you run out of options. I wouldn't use this for anything that requires color accuracy or advanced text reading (so don't use it as an e-book reader), but it's a great help for just about anything you can think of. Rotate the display ninety degrees (in the OS settings) and it's a great monitor for chatting or social media, and a great display for previewing short vertical videos. Searching your desktop and files when you just can't switch between windows makes sense here too. It accompanies me when I travel and will probably otherwise live on a VESA mount next to my desk so I can keep up to date. It will also likely be my go-to choice in a power outage or other situation where power consumption is an issue, as it can conveniently run on an external battery at worst. Enthusiastically recommended.
