Review on πŸ”§ JDMON Universal Adjustable Oil Filter Wrench: 2-1/2 inch to 4 inch Range, 3 Leg Claw Remover by Joel Young

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I had my doubts but it worked as advertised

The oil filter on our 2004 Toyota Camry hangs vertically near the front of the engine. There isn't much room for a regular oil filter wrench and the filter is quite small so the belt was never properly connected. Decided to try this tool. When it arrived I examined it and saw that the three prehensile paws were missing teeth and I figured they were sure to slip off. They probably didn't slip. The oil filter was removed in less than 30 seconds. It worked great. One thing, it comes dry. The movement of the mechanism was not very smooth and the rotation of the gears sometimes hung. I put a few drops of oil in the intestines and after that they moved freely. I only use this tool to remove the old filter. A new filter (metal canister) should always be installed and tightened by hand. Update: December 2020 - Daughter bought a used 2010 Subaru Forrester 2.5L engine. Of course I agreed to change the oil and filter on it. OMG, the oil filter is surrounded by the exhaust manifold and heat shields, there is less than an inch of clearance around the filter! You definitely don't get any kind of wrapping around a wrench there. Great job by the Subaru engineers! So this tool comes out. Simply hold the tool in one hand to keep it stationary, and then turn the ratchet with the other hand until the tool grips the oil filter. Subaru filter turned off in 30 seconds.
