Excellent value for money

I have gigabit service from Xfinity. We used the SB6190 DOCSIS 3.0 modem, for which Xfinity does not support gigabit speeds. You need a DOCSIS 3.1 modem, which costs about $150. We don't need full gigabit speeds for my family but because of the package we got it's cheaper to stick with it and take advantage of the reduced speeds. Well, according to Xfinity, and my previous tests have confirmed it, the SB6190 will only handle about 480 Mbps over DOCSIS 3.0. We've recently had some signal issues across the network connected with various Cat 5/5e cables I had laying around during setup. They worked fine for a while but damn I missed something. I ordered 3 of these cables from Revain for the same price, two 1.5ft to connect my modem to my EdgeRouter-X via POE and one 30ft to run in the attic with my UAP-AC-Lite. The difference is striking and makes me question what Xfinity told me about their DOCSIS 3.0 network. In theory 5e should run fine at gigabit speeds, but the line speed is about half (250MHz) that of these Category 6 cables (550MHz) which can make a big difference over long distances, especially in a POE and/ or remote access environment. Points. I am very happy to report that I am now getting OVER 700Mbps on my DOCSIS 3.0 modem and the cleanest Wi-Fi signals (previous hotspot launch was Category 5) I have ever had. The absolute best $15 (only! for all 3!) I've ever spent on my network for an almost unbelievable win.

Pros
  • Ethernet cable
Cons
  • Slightly torn
