Item has a small design flaw
The locking mechanism has two small lugs that are only about 3mm thick if I remember correctly. This holds it in place and allows it to rotate (snap). I was about to release said latch from my car's windshield and these little pins exploded under spring pressure. I suspect that over time they have been weakened by the heat of the sun. Having to buy a $350 replacement scanner part is confusing at best.
