I bought some plants for my new tank and put them in my tank without quarantine or bleaching (beginner mistake). I quickly found myself in a bad case of Hydra in my shrimp tank. After a little research on the internet I came across this product. I only have a 5 gallon tank and the recommended dose is 50 liters (13.2 gallons) so I used about 1/3 scoop for my first dose. I put the powder in a small glass with some aquarium water and mixed it well before pouring the dissolved powder solution straight into the tank. I didn't see any active Hydra the next morning, but I took another smaller dose 24 hours later to be on the safe side. I then did a 50% water change and had no more problems with the hydra in that tank. The product did not affect the shrimp in any way. Helpful Tips: BEFORE USE, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE REMOVED ANY SNAILS YOU WANT TO SAVE. This product is lethal to all snails, including "worker snails" such as knight and killer snails. Also, you should probably wait for a few water changes before putting the snails back in the tank, just in case any leftovers end up in your substrate. REMOVE CHEMICAL FILTRATION BEFORE USE - Remove activated carbon, purigen or other chemical filters. before adding this product to your aquarium as chemical filtration can remove the drug from the water before it has time to tend to the planarian or hydra. KILL PLANARIA AND HYDRA BEFORE THEY GET INTO YOUR BANK - Before adding new plants to your aquarium, isolate the plants for three days in a solution of 1 tablespoon of alum (from the spice section of your grocery store) dissolved in a gallon of water . This will kill any planarians, hydras, snails and snail eggs on the plants, as well as all other pests and most algae.
