Review on Transcend JetFlash Flash Drive TS32GJF790W by Mateusz Kazana ᠌

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Not the best quality, but generally not bad.

1) When writing / deleting, the flash drive constantly stops recording / deleting at intervals from 2 to 10 seconds. As a result, the speed jump. Budget SSDs with TRIM disabled only do this when the Over Provisioning and SLC cache areas are exhausted, and only after the entire space is filled, and here immediately and in any situation. At the same time, the price of the version for "128" is equal to the price of SSD for 120. 2) Average read-write speeds for the "32Gb" version on a FAT32 pre-installed on a flash drive, taking into account stops: USB 2.0 Read : 37Mb/s USB 2.0 Write : 14Mbps USB 2.0 small file recording: 13 files/sec USB 2.0 small file deletion: 35 files/sec USB 3.0 Read : 130Mb/s USB 3.0 Write : 18Mbps USB 3.0 small file recording: 21 files/sec USB 3.0 small file deletion: 50 files/sec Reading small files is fast (more than 1000 files per second). Deleting large files is fast. 4) Total: Flash drive and flash drive. 4-5 times faster than previous generation flash drives. The body isn't for everyone. The "128GB" version costs like a budget SSD, and the performance is noticeably inferior. The version on "128" in my opinion is qualitatively worse than an SSD of the same capacity, at a similar price. Well, it's faster than cheap flash drives of the previous generation, but it didn't live up to my expectations. I gave it to my relatives, they just needed a flash drive, for their tasks I can’t say that it’s good, but I think it will do better than the previous broken one. But my expectations that it can be used as bootable under Linux Ubuntu did not justify. Ubuntu does a lot of write operations even when reading, and as a result, it took about 5 minutes to boot from this flash drive, while less than 15 seconds from an SSD, and about 1 minute from an HDD. For tasks 10 years ago (moving a movie from a neighbor to yourself), a flash drive is quite suitable. Install an operating system on it, especially modern Linux with gui, and other tasks with frequent small-block recording - God forbid.

Pros
  • When it entered the market a few years ago, judging by the reviews and reviews, it was good. If you do not take into account the freezing of this flash drive in its modern implementation, then flash drives of the previous generation are 4-7 times faster (for the "32GB" version). If we take into account the freezes, then the average speed is still higher than that of very cheap flash drives of the previous generation.
Cons
  • 0. Poor recording. No, it's not as bad as a random flash drive, but if you choose it for speed, then the write speed is bad. A 16GB flash drive bought a little later for 290r has almost 2 times better recording characteristics than this 32GB purchased for 540r. 1. Today's implementation is far from being as chic as they wrote and filmed a video about the implementation of 3 years ago. Probably at the start of sales there was one controller and memory chips, then something changed. (see comment). 2. The capacity is slightly lower than stated. With the declared capacity of 32GB, the real capacity is 30'562'729'984 bytes, or 28.48GB. trifle, however. 3. The size of the case may not suit, close neighboring ports. It was not very convenient for me to stick it.
