This could be much more than a child's toy if it were a more realistic moon map. It would be in the home of every astronomer in the country. The real moon looks pretty amazing after all. Unfortunately, Uncle Milton is a pretty crappy artist. The relief was a good idea and I was tempted to see if I could use spray paint to make this piece of plastic look more natural. I mean, see for yourself (attached). On the right is the real moon, on the left is Uncle Milton's moon. You can't even tell where Mare is! And what is the horseshoe in the middle? There is no horseshoe on the moon. Looks like someone accidentally smeared it with a foam brush and gray paint at the factory. The overall impression is something of a high school science project. IMO they went to the wrong market. Your average 10-year-old will get tired of a new night light in a week. An adult will enjoy displaying a realistic backlit replica moon for years to come. uh good
