Constant temperature, but the dial is far away.
Once you get the temperature of the heater, it works normally. However, I got 78 degrees out of the box and woke up the next morning to find my tank was 85 degrees. Luckily my fish didn't get hurt, but it was a bit of a shock. Currently voted at 72 and water at 77.
