Review on Tenergy AA Rechargeable NIMH Battery Pack - 2000mAh Pre-charged, Low Self Discharge, High Performance (16 PCS) by Elizabeth Jackson

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Excellent performance for 1.5 years, then charge and performance deteriorates.

I bought 2 sets of these batteries, 2 sets to use (I have other brands such as eneloop and sanyo): a. Non-contact children's thermometer Exergenb. Powering a small portable LED flashlight. Used with my son's train "Thomas and his friends" (runs on rails). Initially these batteries were great for up to a year - they held a charge for months, had excellent performance and were used for fast charging. I was very satisfied with their work for a year and a half. BUT then the progressive deterioration began. After about 1.5 years I noticed the following: 1. that it took more than 12 hours to fully charge (they were not fully discharged during use, and there was little charge left) 2. They couldn't maintain a full charge, so there wasn't a full power supply - the train stopped frequently, the light was very dim, even though it had LEDs that used very little power3. Annoying was the thermometer which ran out of batteries inside and I always had a dead thermometer when I needed it most! 4. After about a year the plastic started peeling off the positive metal assembly. In short, I would recommend them to people who only intend to use them for a year. but in my opinion there are other brands like Eneloop and Sanyo that have better performance and are better value for money as they tend to last for years (I have Eneloop and Sanyo that even after 4 years with minimal run stable with normal deterioration). )

Pros
  • Low self-discharge. Tenergy's AA-size battery has built-in low self-discharge technology that prevents power loss after long-term storage. Once charged, it can be stored for 12-24 months with a high percentage of capacity. Unlike traditional NiMH batteries, the high capacity, low self-discharge Centura AA battery can retain up to 85% capacity even after being stored for 1 year!
