This combination makes them easy to store. They both work fine. I love the heat gun with all the attachments to control the heat pattern. The soldering iron works fine though; Note that the handle will get very hot for him. I had to additionally wrap the handle with a piece of hard rubber after soldering a pair of contacts. Unfortunately, the company has to redesign the grip so users don't burn themselves. You don't need to modify the tool to use it. Comfort has defeated the Hot Pen!
