Nice little tablet

Let me start this review by saying I've been looking for a long time for a small, inexpensive Android tablet to use as a media player. I think I found it with the Sungale ID430WTA. After trying a few other 4.3-inch tablets and getting frustrated, I stumbled upon the Sungale. Initial research showed that it met my initial criteria, i.e. H. Hardware volume and menu buttons. Support was my second criterion. This company has a website where you can get product information (<.>). I emailed them with a few questions and got a response within 24 hours! That alone helped me, so I bought it. Let me tell you right away, if you're looking for an ultra-thin, lightweight device, this isn't for you. This thing is built like a brick house! (That's good) It doesn't feel cheap in your hands and it's not heavy, but it's not a feather either. USB cable. There are no headphones, but it doesn't matter. I would have preferred a charger anyway. I will use my own phones. The charger included in the kit has a coaxial connector and the device has a coaxial power connector. BUT it can be charged and powered via mini USB! That's nice. What I liked is that in addition to the hardware volume and menu buttons, there is also a hardware back/home button. Again good! On the left is a headphone jack and a dedicated AV jack, as well as a power button and a micro SD slot. The rest of the buttons are at the top (in landscape mode). The device runs Android 2.2 and comes preinstalled with apps such as Angry Birds, Kindle Reader, Moon+ Reader and Android Market. My device didn't have Android Market when I got it but a quick email to support and they sent me a firmware update. Again, beautiful! This device uses an 800MHz MIPS processor (according to Mfgr.) and is dual-core. It's not the fastest, but it's not terrible either. Currently, the number of applications for the MIPS device is limited, but growing. You will see a limited number of applications in the market. I downloaded the Slide ME Store and got access to more apps. My biggest gripe with many of these little tablets has been the poor sound reproduction. This unit had good sound quality (an equalizer would have been nice) and decent headphone volume. My stereo's line input sounded great. I loaded a few songs onto an 8GB micro SD card and was set for the day. The nice thing is that you can regulate the volume with the buttons without having to unlock the screen. Battery life is pretty decent. Don't expect the batteries on these devices to last forever, they don't. I put it on airplane mode, keep the screen at 50% (bright enough), with a two minute break, and I can work for hours. Screen: This is a 4.3 inch resistive touch screen. With a screen this small, a stylus is a must (not included). I use an old Palm stylus. Every now and then I manage to take my finger away, but not always exactly. I also calibrated the screen four times before getting what I thought was decent. Are there better resistive screens? Sure, but I doubt that at this price point. Between this and other 4.3-inch tablets under $100 that I've tried. Image quality is good (in my opinion). I watched a full length movie on it, I'm happy with the quality. The HD video from YouTube (app included) looked amazing! The sound from the rear speaker was good (for a small speaker). Most videos on You Tube were loud. This brings me to the WiFi. I would say average. The range is comparable to my netbook and my other tablet. I've had a solid connection within 20-30 feet and no problems with video streaming. Also, it will start to stain. I was able to hit my router in the basement in my backyard at about 50 feet, but it was very lucky. Not so good: The biggest problem I had was with the software. For some reason I can't install the iHeart radio. It worked for me on an Elsse tablet (similar hardware) but not on this one. Given that I want to use this as a media player, that's a big deal. Sungale support is aware of this and I hope they can fix it. Pandora works fine. Another problem was the browser. It seems that when opened on the Google homepage, the browser just closes after about 20 seconds of loading. This only happens on certain pages and the problem is that even though I changed the homepage in the browser settings, it still opens the Google homepage. The workaround is to install the Dolphin browser. BUT! You still need to stay away from certain pages or else that browser will close as well. This problem is not unique to Sungale. I had the same problem with Elsse and Archos 3.2. Also, searching the web has shown that many people face the same problem on different devices. It's not good for them. The next thing I did was try the AV on a 42 inch TV. The video quality was decent. I would say it's a notch above the VCR and just below the DVD player. I checked out the Caddy Shack and only used about 50%. batteries. I currently use this device to listen to MP3s in the car (plugged into my stereo) and on the train to work. I play games like Angry Birds, Mini Golf etc. I read e-books about them (a bit small but ok) and I check my company email via Outlook Web Access. I have a bracket The GPS in the car is USB powered at 5V, so it's a great little setup. For the money, you can't beat this little tablet. The hardware works, it looks good and the software works. As a community grows around this device, you will see even more support. Bottom line, I'm keeping it.
