Review on Canon Wireless MegaTank Function SuperTank by Doug Hawkins

Revainrating 3 out of 5

First impression, installation.

Just spent a few hours reading, learning and setting up the G5020 printer. No printing except for a few test pages. Some buyers are negative about the installation instructions and I agree they could be better. The following might help. Download the PDF online manual, it will help you, it contains more information than what is stated. It should be on the installation disk (if so, I didn't find it). Also, do not use the installation CD as the installation is done using the files from the Canon website. DO NOT CONNECT OR TURN ON YOUR COMPUTER UNTIL YOU HAVE FOLLOWED ALL THE STEPS IN THE INSTRUCTIONS. When done correctly, no physical connection is required when using the WiFi method. An alternative hardwiring method is available in the installation instructions. The problem is making sure you use the manual option to set up your wireless connection. To do this, you must use the printer's control panel, which has a small monochrome LCD screen that is difficult to see, has no backlight, and is not tilted. I grabbed a flashlight to see the tiny screen. Discovering the router, the printer recognized it and prompted for the router password (again, a clunky interface). A successful connection allows the printer to be detected via the Windows 10 settings. Windows needs time to collect the necessary files. Installing the printer over Wi-Fi on the other two Windows computers was quick and all the printed test pages ran without issue. The printer came with 3 large bottles of black ink, so refilled 3 full bottles plus 3 bottles of the required color ink. respective tanks. Fill the tanks slowly to avoid spilling or mixing ink. There is a maintenance utility that is not included in the installer for some reason. which must be downloaded separately, allows you to control some functions from your computer instead of from the printer's control panel. I did a lot of research trying to figure out which printer to replace my old iP3000 (which inexplicably died and stopped working after a recent Windows update). not be born again). I have a suspicion that it was a forced termination. The ink subscription and ink prices are what drew me to this printer and it seems like a logical and cheaper alternative. My rating is based on installation and setup only, and conclusions are drawn from counter-intuitive installation and errors in the printer's control panel. If the printer works properly, I'll increase the rating to 4 stars.
