Review on Double Din Dash Install Kit with Wiring Harness for Dodge Ram 2006-2010 - Black Radio Stereo by Adam Gechem

This kit can be made to work but does not fit my 2007 Ram 1500 out of the box perfectly.

This kit was advertised as fitting my 2007 Ram 1500 base cab and for a 2 din radio. He acknowledged the need for some changes to the factory cap but provided a framework for a seamless fit. I also bought a two din Kenwood dds9905s radio to install. When I opened the kit and just looked at the wiring and mounting hardware, everything turned out to be perfect. I sat down and connected the radio wiring harness wires, removed the instrument panel, factory radio and connected the wiring harness. Then I attached the radio to the mounting hardware and evaluated, how the radio would fit in the hole after adjustment. I then modified the dash bezel to fit the supplied frame and cut out the required part. I then had a lot of trouble fitting the radio bezel into the supplied frame as the mounting holes provided (there are many) just don't mount the radio for cleaning. I ended up having to drill some holes myself or widen a few to fit the dash and fascia. As soon as I realized that, he kicked in perfectly and firmly. No radio shake was detected. The next problem is that the included wiring harness to connect to the car wiring harness has a wire with a remote key, but the truck doesn't. It has a CAN bus connection, This allowed the factory radio to turn on with the ignition and stay on until the door was opened. It took me a while to figure this out and I ended up having to connect this wire to one of the positive power supply terminals underneath the radio to get the radio to work. So it doesn't work right out of the box. I would have preferred the instructions to mention that you would need to provide your own power cord with keys as this truck doesn't provide one. As this is the base truck model, all higher tier models will also include CAN bus wiring and will not be ignition powered in their wiring harnesses. It would save me some time. I used to install stereos in a professional audio shop and worked as a mechanic in car dealerships for 15 years, so I have some installation experience, others may have more or less problems than me depending on the radio and the car. I would take a good look at the sets offered before I buy this again. However, after a lengthy setup and finding a power issue, this kit did the trick.
