I bought this in 2013 for about $4 to hook up some equipment to my receiver and then used it on my receiver for my Fire and it worked flawlessly. I also bought a shorter cable from this big auction and chose a different brand to save a few bucks thinking they are all pretty much the same...wrong! We have a big and messy house, so we have receivers for music and/or TV in three different rooms. We recently got a software update for the Fire but couldn't get the same sound out and had to crank the receiver up to 50 just to hear the words. I tried the Fire back on the receiver with this cable and it worked fine with the volume around 30 (the volume on the Fire is always set to maximum). I then moved the fire and cable back to the room, we had problems and everything was fine... problem solved. Initial suspicions were that the Fire 3.5mm port or receiver was defective, but it was clearly a cable which we initially thought was fine because it worked perfectly when connected to our Walkman cassette player . I'm not sure why this worked on the Walkman and not the Fire, but it's clear that not all cables are created equal and/or will eventually stop working the way they used to. Still 5 stars for this one and I threw away the old adapter and bought a new one with great reviews and brand name... not saving a buck to save a buck.
