The STR-DE975 is a perfect example of planned obsolescence: a receiver with fantastically deep, clear and loud sound that failed after only a few years of use. use because its heavy analog circuitry was not well designed. Smooth source switching and a plethora of home theater options, as well as an initially amazing sound, do not help much if after a few years the device burns, emits a strange burning smell and "PROTECTOR" flashes when you turn it on. The 975 convinced me that Sony's 'high-end' products really aren't like that at all - while they're built to perform well from the start, they're not built to last.
