Great recipient! on home theater

Great features, lots of sound settings, big power, easy to use and great sound. While this receiver may seem dated today, it was so ahead of its time that it still stands on par with some of the good stuff on sale today.

Pros
  • Ideal for small homes
Cons
  • Speed

Tons of features. Good looking. Excellent ad.

After a few trips to the electronics store, I came across this model and was amazed at what it can do in its price range. , it probably sounded just as good, but they didn't have all the features that this one had.

Pros
  • Very good value for money
Cons
  • Some flaws

Good until failure

I bought this unit a little over a year ago and within a year my front right speaker failed. I used to be a big Sony fan, but I've noticed that their quality is going downhill. After this flopped (as did a similar one two years ago) I bought a Harmon Kardon AVR-125 and am hoping to get lucky with it. From now on I stay away from Sony

Pros
  • Great selection
Cons
  • Some little things

I RETURNED to home theater

Technology gone wrong. My big problem with this unit is running two sets of front speakers at the same time. A or B but not A&B. Aside from that show stop I spent about 5 hours hooking up this unit, be prepared to purchase additional digital optical and S-Video cables (nothing included). The manual is not good. As mentioned, I need a receiver that can drive two sets of front speakers, so I returned it.

Pros
  • Looks good
Cons
  • Makes me angry

Excellent receiver on receivers and amplifiers

I bought this receiver, if I'm not mistaken, about 12 years ago. Cost about $600 when S-Video was best. The receiver has served more than 10 years without complaints. It eventually broke so I bought a Bose Lifestyle v20 system. I have used Sony with Bose speakers and still think it sounded better with this receiver than the new one I just got. If an electronic device you use EVERY day lasts 10 years, I consider it a winner. I have five +, BUY! Really good sound.

Pros
  • understandable even for the old ones
Cons
  • Many things

Sounds great but dies young

The STR-DE975 is a perfect example of planned obsolescence: a receiver with fantastically deep, clear and loud sound that failed after only a few years of use. use because its heavy analog circuitry was not well designed. Smooth source switching and a plethora of home theater options, as well as an initially amazing sound, do not help much if after a few years the device burns, emits a strange burning smell and "PROTECTOR" flashes when you turn it on. The 975 convinced me that Sony's 'high-end'

Pros
  • Fingers crossed
Cons
  • I'll add later

Kicks [rear]!: Receiver & Amplifier

This Sony receiver has been in my house for a little over a week and is by far the best receiver I've owned. This is the dream of the "adjuster"; You can customize almost all sounds to suit your taste. I particularly like how the device maintains unique settings for each function. For example, if you're watching a DVD set to Cinema A in DVD mode, but prefer to listen to FM radio in Tuner mode set to Disco/Club, it will remember both options without having to switch between them. every time youโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Best of its kind
Cons
  • Nothing

good first few months after purchase

I bought this receiver in February 2002 when I found that my other receiver (also Sony) no longer worked in Dolby Digital optical mode. I liked that this model offers much more power per channel (110X5) and also decodes the DTS signal. Sony products also offer a lot more customization for the money. It has nearly thirty EQ settings and a cool on-screen programming feature. Maybe I was just looking up the manufacturer's name because most of my other electronic products are Sony and I didn't want

Pros
  • Not cheap but decent
Cons
  • Appearance
