Great kayak for the price

Great product. Bought at the end of summer for $94. So the price fluctuates depending on the season. It took me about 20 minutes to set it up the first time. Approximately 15 minutes for subsequent attempts. Filmed 3-4 times in the last 2 months. Folds up compact enough to fit in the trunk of a small car. The paddles work but I found them small for me. This kayak is also a bit wide. I ended up with a 96" paddle, but I'm 5ft 10" tall. My 5 year old daughter agrees. When I stretch my legs, I have to press them against the sides of the front seat. The hull of the boat is quite strong. You have to scratch a jagged metal or bang your head on a hard, pointed branch to get it pierced. This boat is suitable for boating itself. It doesn't feel as smooth and cannot move as fast as a hard plastic boat. But that's okay considering it costs $100 to $200 less. I even went through a couple of moderate rapids (still choppy enough to give me a good spray) and it held up great. The fin/skeg works great and is easy to install, but it takes decent arm strength to take it off (a good thing). It basically snaps into place and you have to press the tab to remove it. I've drilled a hole and threaded line through in case the skeg falls off as others have suggested, but that's unnecessary. Once I even started to move away from the shore, and the skeg, and only the skeg, hit an underwater rock. I was going at about 3mph when it hit and stopped all 200+ lb boat and people. The edge of the skeg was slightly scratched but ended up staying in place. Perhaps Intex updated the skeg after it was first released. I will remove the line before my next ride because it is not needed and algae etc get in there and create more drag. For that I would choose a rigid boat. However, I am very satisfied with this very inexpensive and easy to transport kayak.

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • Requires an outlet
