I recently bought a 2005 Forester X with a key and no fob so repair was a priority. This keychain works great. The range isn't that great, but I understand it's more down to the receiver and placement of the antenna on the vehicle. Programming for the car was a headache, but again it's not the fob's fault as the programming is done entirely in the car and I think the car's owner's manual could have been a bit clearer. Different models/years have different programming procedures. If you encounter any problems, be sure to follow the instructions EXACTLY. Here is the sequence that worked on my 2005 Forester X: - Unlock ALL the doors - Sit in the driver's seat - Open and close the driver's door (open it all the way) - Put the key in the ignition (DO NOT insert the key before this step) - Turn the key from the LOCK position to the ON position ten times until you end up in the LOCK position - At this point the horn should sound once. If it doesn't, start over. Within 45 seconds, open and close the driver's door (fully) and press the button on the new key fob. The beep should sound twice.
