Works as expected with my 2005 Impreza.

The product is great but the programming is confusing (that's Subaru's fault, not this product). It took me a few tries to get the machine into programming mode but I watched a few YouTube videos and one day I realized I had to close the door THEN put the key in and start it after the 10th. again, I was ready to go. Now I have a working keychain.

Use the Subaru manual

Worked on the first try! Your Subaru manual is the best place to go for instructions. Read the steps and be prepared to act quickly - even a 5 second delay can bring you back to start. The code number has to be entered twice for it to work. I made a sheet for quick access to the instructions in the manual without the extra stuff. It registered on the first try. As for the price, my Subaru dealer wanted $160 for the remote and $60 for the programming. This is the way!

Pros
  • Don't waste too much time
Cons
  • Little repairability

Savior! suitable for anti-theft

I bought this key fob for a used Subaru Impreza that came without it. For the last few months, we couldn't lock the car doors because every time you lock it manually and then unlock it, the alarm goes off. This was a HUGE inconvenience. I always had to make sure there was nothing valuable in the car. I was able to set up this keychain in under 10 minutes. Not sure why the other airheads had trouble setting up. It was so easy and best of all I can lock and unlock the car without raising an…

It's complicated to program, but it's not the key fob's fault

Okay, it took me a few times to program it. The instructions provided are the same as in the vehicle owner's manual (Forester 2005). They didn't work for me. YouTube had other methods that didn't work either. What worked was the instruction of Peter Vandermeij published in his review of 01/02/2021. Many instructions also state that the car horn will beep or chirp to indicate when the car is in programming mode. This didn't happen to me, instead the machine gave a continuous beep that didn't…

Programming - 2007 Subaru Impreza WRX STI Limited

Worked great on first try! case.) 1. Sit on the driver's seat.2. Close all doors and the trunk.3. Open and close the driver's door once.4. Quickly turn the key from off to on 10 times.5. Open and close the driver's door once.6. Enter your 8-digit code. (To do this, read from left to right, LOCK your doors using the lock on your door, the first digit of the number followed by an UNLOCK. For example, your code is 87654321: LOCK the door 8 times, DRINK once.CLOSE 7 times, UNLOCK once, LOCK 6…

Works great with 2005 Forester X

I recently bought a 2005 Forester X with a key and no fob so repair was a priority. This keychain works great. The range isn't that great, but I understand it's more down to the receiver and placement of the antenna on the vehicle. Programming for the car was a headache, but again it's not the fob's fault as the programming is done entirely in the car and I think the car's owner's manual could have been a bit clearer. Different models/years have different programming procedures. If you…

Didn't work even though I tried all the tricks up my sleeve. Forester 2010

Unfortunately does not work.1. after 2005 the pairing procedure is NOT the one described here or in the Forester manual - due to the fact that these models have an immobilizer fitted (according to the dealer). Pairing must be done through your computer.2. Also, it seems that there are different models for which it is important to have the same FCC identification number. None of these were mentioned in the product information so unfortunately I have to go back and go elsewhere. I'm still hoping…

Try this before going to the dealer

Both of my 2006 Subaru Forester key fobs stopped working 6 months ago, went to the dealer and was told it was $230, one key fob to replace (including key programming). $65 fee!) I didn't want to pay that, so I thought about buying a keychain online for a while because the retailer said that buying a keychain online usually never works and is cheap. So I gave in and bought this keychain from Revain, programmed it in 10 minutes (using the programming guide on their website) and saved $200! I…
