Review on Wi-Fi router ASUS RT-AC88U, black/red by Park Seo Jun ᠌

The average product, you can find a better one.

It so happened that I am the owner of two copies of this device. There were no special problems with the first, except for dancing with a tambourine when activating the "AC" wireless data transfer mode - the notorious problem with channel selection. But after I set everything up, there were no more complaints - everything flies and 40MB / s when transferring data from a NAS over the air is not the limit. But with the second one, the situation is already worse - an hour after the purchase, the WiFi 5 GHz network died. In principle, already during the check in the store, vague doubts crept in - the corresponding indicator did not light up and the network was not visible to the devices. However, he attributed everything to the problem with the choice of channel. Change manually in the settings did not allow the lack of time. As a result, the final check was already carried out at home. Here, somehow, we managed to set up a bridge with the first router at a frequency of 5 GHz. And he even worked for 10-15 minutes. Then it broke safely and recovered only after rebooting the device. Then he began to tear almost immediately, until he finally died. Restoring factory settings via the BIOS, using the Hard Reset button, flashing with standard tools to various firmware versions from the manufacturer's website - nothing helped. In router mode, the broadcast 5 GHz network was seen literally for a minute - it appeared unexpectedly and then disappeared. He carried it back, and immediately ran into another such sufferer, only his 2.4GHz network died. What after that to think about the quality of the production of this device - I do not know. Maybe the problem is overheating. The device is already heating up quite well, and now it was also hot outside. In any case, this is an oversight by the manufacturer - since you are already making such a hot piece of iron - take care of cooling.

Pros
  • Fast, good coverage, fully exploits the capabilities of the NAS when transferring data over the air.
Cons
  • It gets very hot, the percentage of marriage
