Most laptops come with very low thermal pads, typically well under 7 W/mK. They'll get the job done, but a cooler is always better, especially for durability. I recently received three laptops so I replaced the stock spacers along with an extension of another spacer that was clearly too short. The difference in heat transfer was immediately noticeable. Touch while running with the back removed and reported temperatures on the VRM and other sensors were much better. I also swapped out the thermal pads on two of the M.2 drives, which resulted in a 6-10 degree drop in temperature. Excellent! 5/5
