Review on MyStudio MS20 Professional Photo Studio Lightbox Kit with 5000K Lighting for Enhanced Product Photography by Lauren Marley

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Would probably work just fine, though.

I thought about this purchase for a long time before buying it. I needed a way to get more consistent indoor results here in the desolate Northwest. Like most people who buy this I have something to sell and thought it would make life easier as I can take pictures whenever I want. Just a few points, the first negative: 1) It was a bit awkward to assemble. Having another pair of hands would help, but it can still be done by one person, you just need to hold things a certain way while the screws are being screwed in. 2) The information simply "not quite" went far enough. There are a few sheets in it which are pretty good, but the direction in which the parts should be aligned and connected was still not clear, so I had to unscrew and screw a few times. There are images on the paper but they are a bit dark and grainy. The included tutorial DVD is pretty good too, but again, the key seconds (which direction, which hole, which screws) remain a little blurry. 3) Two hex nuts were missing. I didn't realize it until after I had assembled the last piece and I didn't have a house on hand to use as a spare. 4) The instructions are slightly different from the product I received as they changed the design of the legs/feet 5) The two plastic tabs on the fluorescent light diffuser were broken. Not enough that he didn't want to stay, but then again, they were broken. 6) I took a few shots, with lights and reflectors, and while the curved-side infinity effect was really good, I kept thinking there must be a cheaper solution than this. The photos turned out ok, but nothing extraordinary. 7) There was a large slit on the outer shipping box, but this did not affect the product as it is packaged separately inside. Pros: There is an offer that if you leave a 5 star review on Revain you will have a free 5000K daylight bulb on hand to replace the bulb that came with your order. It had a deadline. shoot, now I don't remember what it was. 2) The frame is metal and should be very strong. It's also fairly lightweight yet durable. I like this size though (20 inches from the corners on each side) but the height can be a bit short for some of the things I will be photographing. Keep this in mind. 3) Good quality hardware to assemble it (if everything was there). If I wanted to go to the hardware store I sure could easily replace them, but um. 4) I paid extra for shipping (I have Prime so it was just an extra shipping fee for early delivery) and it arrived very early in the morning after the day I ordered it. ++ for Revain. Overall I think it has a lot of potential for those who don't mind a few kinks in the build and want something that will last a long time. Keeping this can be a problem, so if you want to keep it away, it's something of a scene thief.

Pros
  • Useful not only for its intended purpose
Cons
  • There are defects
