The wire/light is attached to the outer "cover". This means that you have to route the cable through the license plate during installation. This also means you have to disconnect the cable and thread the entire cable back through the label to change the label. The previous one I had was just a cap with a light and the wire snapped off. I didn't tighten it enough and lost the cap, but it was a poor replacement. Also, the return shipping cost for a refund is $6.
