I had to "fix" my favorite snow suit as the latch wouldn't stay on my unfortunately enlarged waist. I chose these hooks because I didn't need to sew and didn't want to try to sew through the triple waterproof fabric layer at the waist. Installation was fairly quick, although I had to drive a few small end nails into the fabric to create pilot holes in the fabric where I could pierce it with Velcro pins. I tried pushing them through with my hand at first, but the three-ply fabric was too stiff to push through the fabric and I didn't want to risk bending it. I think for most materials this shouldn't be a problem. Once the pilot holes were in place, the pins were pierced and bent slightly enough, and they fit into a small groove in the panels you attach them to: so there's no skin contact and nothing rough to cause tampering. They appear to be very durable and survived my first outing with no problems, no signs of loosening!
