It slides through pants like regular pants, except for the back panel where you fold the "clips" like ends, and it - really - holds tight. I mean really strong. YES! I have two pairs of dress pants that fit my legs but are too big in the waist, they fall out and I hate wearing a belt. I had to "fix" my favorite snow suit as the latch wouldn't stay on my unfortunately enlarged waist. I chose these hooks because I didn't need to sew and didn't want to try to sew through the triple waterproof fabric layer at the waist.
