The price was reasonable - companies these days make insane profits on anything. They'll cost less than 5 cents to make in the US (I'm an engineer, I know these things) and probably less than a cent in China, so the $1 price they cost is one Amount of money. but there are retailers who charge $5 for one of these, so I'm not complaining.
