This part works well but is not required

This is great for its purpose. It's a piece of metal with multiple screw holes, so it's pretty hard to mess with. Unfortunately, this part is needed in the first place, and using it moves the monitor quite a distance from the Vesa mount, making the monitors weigh more than they actually are. It would be much better if the mount was much closer to the monitor's center of gravity.
