Okay I've only used this thing once but I LOVE LOVE LOVE! The slats are well spaced, especially for some of the thinner fillers I use. They're wide enough that you don't have to shake vigorously to sift through the dirt, but small enough that small particles don't get sifted through. If you're using granular litter, this probably won't work for you. The spade has a good curve and is really big. I'm not sure why some reviews say this shovel is really heavy. I figured it would be pretty easy for a metal shovel. Yes, it's heavier than an ordinary thin plastic shovel, but not so heavy that it can't be lifted. In comparison, a ceramic coffee mug is heavier. I agree that if you have arthritis in your hands or wrists, the design of this shovel is likely to be awkward to use due to the curvature of the shovel. You will use your wrist to shovel. As for the Teflon, I'm pretty sure it protects the metal from corrosion and isn't a non-stick coating.
